Every single floor is custom-made to suit the nature of the project, and we are happy to advise you on the many options. Here are some pointers to begin with:
Full length, historical or random length planks?
Overall, wide planks in full lengths are our most exclusive type of flooring and an elegant choice regardless of whether they are used in a newly restored castle or a modern residence. Historical planks in full lengths are a traditional method that has been used for centuries and are particularly suitable for historical buildings. Random length planks agree well with projects where the desire is beautiful, versatile floors of a high quality.
Dinesen Douglas or Dinesen Douglas Natural?
Out of a single trunk, several dimensions are made that depending on the knots become either Dinesen Douglas, Dinesen Douglas Natural or Dinesen Douglas Rustic. Dinesen Douglas has the fewest knots and the purest look. It is our most expensive quality because very little of the raw wood meets the strict requirements. There are a few more and slightly larger knots in Dinesen Douglas Natural. The planks are still harmonious with an authentic and somewhat more vivid look.
Dinesen Douglas Natural is just as strong and longlasting as Dinesen Douglas and has undergone the same quality control and production processes. The price is lower because there is more raw wood available. Dinesen Douglas Rustic is only available in certain markets.
For both large and small-scale projects, you can choose to prioritise the different spaces using both Dinesen Douglas and Dinesen Douglas Natural. In this way, the tree is better utilised, the price decreases, while the floors still create a beautiful sense of continuity between the spaces.
Which width?
The different planks are of the same high quality, so the choice of width can therefore be made based on budget and the kind of look you are after. The width can also be used to underline and complement the architectural lines in a space. Wide planks are the finest that both we and the forest can produce. They are slightly more expensive, but they look fantastic.
The finish?
The planks are supplied unfinished. The distinctive light and elegant look can be achieved by finishing the planks with lye and white soap or white oil. If a darker look is wanted, the planks should be finished with natural soap or natural oil.
We are, of course, happy to advise you on how to finish your floor, and we have also developed our own finishing and maintenance products. On dinesen.com you will find instructional videos and our webshop where you can buy our maintenance products.
Direct contact
At Dinesen we value direct contact. It is important to us to be closely involved in all aspects - from the forest workers felling the trees to advising our customers. That is the only way we can guarantee the high quality of our floors. We therefore provide advice and deliver directly to our customers all over the world from our head office and production facility in Denmark, where it all began in 1898.
The planks are supplied untreated with a wood moisture content of 8–10%
