Oak is an impressive wood species that depending on the knot content and dimensions, can be used to create floors with very different looks: from the discrete and elegant through the warm and authentic to the dramatic and impressive. We will do everything we can to offer you the best possible advice. Here are some initial pointers on the many possibilities:
Dinesen Oak or Dinesen Oak Natural?
The choice between Dinesen Oak and Dinesen Oak Natural is rarely influenced by budget. It is more a question of whether you want the floor to understate or accentuate the natural characteristics of oak wood. Dinesen Oak has very few knots and a look that is both discrete and clean, which signals elegance and serenity. Dinesen Oak Natural, on the other hand, has a more lively and authentic look that adds warmth and vitality. To many, Dinesen Oak Natural is the perfect definition of oak wood.
Dinesen GrandOak® or Dinesen HeartOak®?
Wide planks have a special charm and are the finest that both we and the forest can produce. Therefore, we have given them their own names: Dinesen GrandOakÆ and Dinesen HeartOak®. These are our most exclusive floorboards made in widths from 35 to 50 centimetres, but apart from that, the two are very different. GrandOak® is magnificent planks with very few knots and a calm structure that exudes elegance. HeartOak® is extraordinary planks where the natural cracks have been preserved and locked with elegant dovetail joins of oak. In combination with the knots, this creates a very powerful look. GrandOak® and HeartOak® may be more expensive, but in return you get a unique and exceptional floor.
Which thickness?
You can tell if floorboards are solid by their sound. The thicker the plank, the deeper the sound. That is the sound of quality. We always recommend the thickest planks. Thick planks are more stable, last for a generation or two longer and have a particular honesty about them. Plank floors should be just as solid and stable as they look.
Which width?
The different dimensions are made from the same highquality raw wood. The narrowest plank may come from the largest oak tree and it will be of the exact same quality as a longer and wider plank. The choice of width can therefore be made to suit your budget and the kind of look you are after.
A good way in which to give a floor more character is to use different widths within the same floor. If you are considering narrow planks, think about the lengths. A solid floor of long, narrow planks from Dinesen has a particularly elegant effect that far outshines any standard parquet flooring.
Lengths?
All Dinesen oak floors are supplied in random lengths. This allows us to make the best possible use of the carefully selected raw wood and shows the greatest respect for the more than two-hundred-year-old oak trees. Every plank is made as long as possible ñ typically in lengths between 2 and 5 metres. Some dimensions can also be supplied in lengths between 4 and 6 metres.
Depending on our stock of raw wood and the desired delivery time, some of our dimensions can also be supplied in full lengths up to 6 metres.
The finish?
The planks are supplied unfinished. We are, of course, happy to advise you on how to finish your floor, and we have also developed our own finishing and maintenance products. On dinesen.com you will find instructional videos and our webshop where you can buy our maintenance products.
Direct contact
At Dinesen we value direct contact. It is important to us to be closely involved in all aspects ñ from the forest workers felling the trees to advising our customers. That is the only way we can guarantee the high quality of our floors. We therefore provide advice and deliver directly to our customers all over the world from our head office and production facility in Denmark, where it all began in 1898.
The planks are supplied untreated with a wood moisture content of 8–10%.
