Bang & Olufsen Soho Store

Bang & Olufsen’s flagship store in Soho, New York, is a space that engages all the senses, where the acoustic qualities and the interior design in particular help create an atmosphere of well-being. TPG Architecture used solid HeartOak plank flooring to create a space with optimal balance and ambience.

In the Soho district, the beating heart of New York City, stands a building with a beautiful, dark facade, its architectural ornamentation preserved, that forms a striking contrast to the modern Bang & Olufsen products on display inside.

The interior of the flagship store is carefully designed to provide a customer experience that engages all the senses. The room's acoustics, mood, scent and overall expression all contribute to a sense of well-being.

B&O’s aesthetic design products are on display in an open, high-ceilinged room. Naked walls in the city’s characteristic brownstones and large windows taking in the urban life outside frame the setting, while floors in solid Dinesen HeartOak planks form the base.

“The choice of flooring for the Bang & Olufsen Flagship store in Soho was based on a few important factors. The most important being that we needed a material that complements the experience of the store. Choosing a wooden floor supported the overall acoustical experience while the material communicated a warm, inviting atmosphere. Dinesen’s wide HeartOak planks added the exclusive feel of the store while echoing the quality of natural, honest materials. We felt that Dinesen’s approach to wood and honest materials was reflected in our way of addressing and integrating materials in design. The choice of treatment was also relevant in communicating this mindset. Invisible Oil (Bona) left the wood almost as natural as the raw product, so the customer could really feel the oak and sense its outstanding properties.”
