Founder Robert Thake worked in close collaboration with the client to re-imagine the space as a calm, understated, carefully configured family home.

A contemporary extension at the rear of the property is designed around a bespoke solid ash table by Benchmark – conceived by RLD as the heart of the home. Connecting the inside of the house with the new landscaped garden, the extension aims to complement the building’s original architecture.

In keeping with the studio’s preference for natural, hardwearing materials that improve with age and use, Jura Beige limestone and solid ash Dinesen flooring are applied throughout, complementing the calm architectural colour palette, and creating consistency and visual harmony across the project.

"For this project, we were looking for a natural wood that would combine softness of tone with strength and durability. Ash was the obvious choice, and we had no hesitation in working with Dinesen, who provided the highest quality materials which perfectly complemented our vision for the overall space."

Bespoke joinery created for the living areas and master bedroom, dressing room and en suite bathroom reflect the language of the scheme, while the original tiled flooring in the downstairs hall has been given new life through careful restoration.

A clear understanding of the client’s unique needs for their home was Robert’s foremost preoccupation when designing the interior. Use, proportion, and longevity were therefore key elements to creating this calm, coherent and harmonious space that responds to the original architecture.
