Café Vins

Café Vins formed out of pure curiosity. An intentional wooden box lined with Dinesen Douglas, it is a place for everyday rituals, where warmth and simplicity invite people to slow down.

What began as a clothing showroom for the independent brand mauk evolved into something less easily defined. Café Vins in London challenges conventional ideas of how a shop should feel. Here, coffee, conversation and a minimal material palette of steel and Douglas wood coexist within the same architectural language.

Flooring and wall cladding

Douglas Natural and Classic

Thickness: 28 mm. Width: 350 mm. Length: 2-5 m

Finish: Lye and White Soap

The team imagined a space that felt like a single crafted volume. Douglas flooring flows effortlessly into wall cladding, dissolving the boundaries between horizontal and vertical surfaces and creating what the owners describe as a wooden box.

Both Douglas Classic and Natural have been used throughout the interior. The expressive knots and character of the Natural grading are balanced by the calmer appearance of Classic, allowing imperfections to become part of the composition.

"We wanted the space to feel warm, light and almost like an extension of home. By combining Classic and Natural Douglas, we could celebrate the individuality of the wood while creating one seamless architectural experience".

- Rio Moseley, Founder

The same Douglas continues into bespoke benches, shelving and modular furniture, reinforcing the sense that every surface belongs to the same architectural whole. Paired with stainless steel, this material duette defines the atmosphere. Objects encountered by the touch of hand, foot and body are crafted from wood, while the more visual elements are expressed in steel.
