The university closed in the 1960s when all teaching activities were transferred to Madrid, but the reopening brings high hopes for the future in the small, picturesque coastal town of Comillas, 150 km west of Bilbao. Dinesen has supplied approx. 7,760 m2 of Douglas planks, which harmonise beautifully with the original, monumental buildings and the modern architectural solutions.

Among other things, many of the planks have been used for wall cladding, while full-length Douglas floorboards grace the corridors and magnificent rooms where they stand in fine contrast with the old stone walls and the new window sections. The wooden plank floors from Dinesen are an important element in the interior, adding a clean, warm look. The restoration work initially focused on the east wing of the oldest part of Comillas University, where auditoria, teaching rooms and a library as well as a handful of guestrooms can be found with floors and specially designed furnishings made of Dinesen Douglas.
