Fritz Hansen Copenhagen Showroom

This former mansion and Royal Post Office on the corner of Købmagergade and Valkendorfsgade is now home to Fritz Hansen’s Copenhagen showroom. The commercial space feels like a modern home with a light, welcoming, Nordic atmosphere achieved with natural colour shades and materials. Here, the legendary Danish company, which dates back to 1872, welcomes visitors to a 270-square-metre design universe, distributed over two floors, centrally located in the heart of Copenhagen. In addition to iconic furniture designs by Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm, the shop also presents new pieces by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon and Danish designers Cecilie Manz and Kasper Salto, among others.

The gentle renovation of the old post office was undertaken by Sweco. The luxurious furniture designs are beautifully presented in these historical rooms with their exquisitely designed window sections and classic, ornamented cast-iron columns, their winding, organic patterns in beautiful contrast to the clean lines of the exclusive furniture. The shop’s elegant facade towards Valkendorfsgade was also carefully renovated to restore the beautiful details to their former glory.

The renovated showroom features Dinesen HeartOak planks in varying widths. This historical timber species exudes quality and lends the interior a calm, uniform expression. Oak has a homogenous expression that makes it easy to experiment with varying widths in a dynamic composition that never fails to leave a consistent and balanced impression. The small oak butterflies add an element of surprise and trigger curiosity about the material in the majestic setting.
