Rytterhus

Today, the house appears as new, but in fact it is a renovated older bungalow. The renovation fulfilled the family’s dreams of an open house with plenty of light and space. The original house had an impractical distribution of space with small, narrow rooms. Therefore, the family contacted architect Nikolaj Rahbek Ernst, who analysed the possibilities of the house and proposed a plan to breathe new life into the 560 m2.

The plan led to a comprehensive renovation where only the outer walls of the house were left untouched. The basement was excavated to provide a better ceiling height, and the side building was equipped with large skylights, which now draw the daylight in and make the top floor with its sloping walls seem larger.

The style is classic, simple and functional, a perfect choice for an active home that is sometimes the venue for large parties. The light Dinesen Douglas floors tie the rooms of the house together and act as a natural link connecting the original elements such as the staircase in the lobby and the new red concrete wall that has become the heart of the home.

The red wall was poured on site, and the stair connects the top-floor rooms with the living room on the ground floor and then continues into the basement which features a home cinema, a fitness room and a teenage room. The master bedroom, complete with a living room and en-suite bathroom, forms a small private space to retire to from the activities of the house.
