In a classic Stockholm apartment, architects Claesson Koivisto Rune have created a modern home with clear material choices, generous room layouts and a finely coordinated interaction between architecture and art. The apartment is characterised by calm, light and continuous Douglas floors, which tie the home together across rooms and functions.

The Swedish multidisciplinary office Claesson Koivisto Rune transformed a private residence into a serene, contemporary home in a historic Stockholm building. The renovation rethinks classical proportions, introducing a bold, brass-clad kitchen at the centre of the floorplan—a sculptural anchor around which the space unfolds.

Expansive Douglas floors run seamlessly throughout the apartment, stretching uninterrupted through the rooms. They measure up to 12.5 metres in length and 450 mm in width, forming a calm, continuous base. Finished with lye and white soap, the planks add a pale tonality that enhances the natural light and underscores the apartment’s sense of stillness and scale.

The Douglas planks selected in a Natural variant bring a gentle brightness to the space, softening its sculptural contrasts. The prominent knots tell a quiet story, while the planks’ smooth flow guides the eye and supports the architectural language of purity and proportion that defines the project.

The home is also defined by its curated relationship with art. Distinct works are thoughtfully positioned to activate the space, their presence offering moments of contrast, emotion, and depth. Rather than decoration, art becomes architecture—part of the spatial experience. The floor’s soft texture and muted colour allow each piece to stand out while still belonging to the whole.
With its refined material palette and spatial clarity, the Stockholm Residence balances restraint with richness. Dinesen wood serves as the connective thread, quietly supporting the architecture, light, and art that give this home its distinct character.
