Toves House

At the edge of the forest with a view of the fields and a small lake lies the architect-designed house that is home to a very active couple. Poul and Tove’s home was designed with inspi- ration from their former house, which in addition to their children, grandchildren and the family dogs always had ample room for guests. The ceilings are high, and the rooms are large and welcoming with rustic grey brick as a consistent feature.

Before the first stone was laid down, the lady of the house took part in the careful selection process and dyeing of the bricks, which was handled by the firm Gamle Mursten (Old Bricks), which specialises in reclaimed bricks. The stones with the grey patina are now marketed as “Tove’s Bricks”.

The floors in the house are a result of the couple’s former hobby, which was to tour Denmark to visit the Danish manor houses. This sparked a desire to once be able to put the luxurious Douglas floors in their own home. The long light wooden planks tie the many square metres of the house together, creating a soft contrast to the raw reclaimed bricks and the large windows that bring the beautiful surrounding scenery indoors.
