Meaning ‘dwell’ in Japanese, the Sumu Residence is based on Japanese minimalism paired with Scandinavian sensibilities. With the open rooms, subdued interiors and warm Douglas flooring, Echo Design + Architecture has transformed a two-bedroom apartment into a modern sanctuary.
The apartment itself revolves around a custom built-in that provides all the necessary amenities for each room. This ultra-efficient millwork removes any clutter, emphasizes openness and allows light to flow across the soap finished Douglas floors in every room.
In addition to the wooden floors and white cabinets, the palette is composed of gray upholstered furniture, tan linens and off-white walls. The subtle change in tones and textures allows key elements to be highlighted without any over-embellishment.
