After 10 years at the original restaurant, Norway’s culinary star, Maaemo, has entered the next chapter by moving to an exquisite new location next to the Oslo Fjord in the heart of the city. Led by head chef, Esben Holmboe Bang, the doors opened in May 2020. The new space offers guests an unrivalled sense of luxury and gastronomy.

In 2021 the restaurant was awarded three stars in the Michelin guide.

Driven by a passion to create an experience around the clean, bright flavours of Norway, using entirely organic, biodynamic, or wild produce, Holmboe Bang’s culinary style awarded him 3 Michelin stars in 2016.

With the new Maaemo, Esben Holmboe Bang has left his 3 stars behind and has set on a new course.

The interior architects from Radius design and designers Bielke & Yang oversaw the design and expression of the new space and Dinesen is proud to be a part of the interior.

When creating a space with warmth and with sustainability in mind, Dinesen HeartOak floors were chosen. A beautiful symbiosis as tradition and craft define both art forms.

“I opened Maaemo because I wanted to develop a creative outlet where the dramatic and unique Norwegian landscape is distilled onto the plate. A place with warmth. A place where sustainable, generous and personal cooking is the foundation”

Head chef, Esben Holmboe Bang

“The architecture consists of very few materials that are honest, solid natural materials that require precision in craftsmanship. We wanted to create a visual expression that will serve as a subtle backdrop for the art that Maaemo performs on the premises.”
