Every level of the three-storey house has been extended by using large panels of Douglas fir to line the interiors of the extensions, both in the kitchen and in the attic. As a consistent design element throughout the house, they have used Dinesen Douglas for wall cladding. The front and the side masonry walls are all that remain of the original home.

Douglas House is a home with cosy nooks and where elements like timber and natural light are truly appreciated and allowed to play and interact with each other. The light creates beautiful shadows shifting across the timber – adding surprise elements for the explorer to discover as the sun orbits around the house. Dinesen Douglas is present on all levels in the house from flooring and stair treads to built-in wardrobes and bookshelves.

As an embracing element, window seating made from Dinesen Douglas has been added both at ground level, with a window-box overlooking the garden and at the top floor where an oriel window juts out from the loft space like small oases around the house where the residents can relax and read. The use of Dinesen Douglas as a cohesive element throughout the house creates a warm and calm space where one room naturally leads you to the next.

The floor to ceiling windows and the openable roof light for stargazing let the house breath naturally and remind us that nature’s tranquillity is just one step away. The Douglas House displays what is possible in a world of wood. Where the sky is the limit. Literally.
