This winter, the CC Shop at Copenhagen Contemporary will become a Christmas Market with exhibitions and workshops curated by Dinesen and friends. With Dinesen wood at centre stage, the market will feature changing exhibitions, objects and workshops centered around themes such as luck, heritage, and quirky things.

Dinesen is built on good relationships and collaborations, and we have been cultivating these ever since our founding in 1898. Back then, the company was called Jels Savværk (Jels Sawmill) with production and shop side by side in the town of Jels in Southern Jutland. While the name was Jels Savværk, the annual Christmas market in the sawmill square was a significant anchor for the company’s self-understanding. The locals visited the market to experience wooden curiosities and purchase their own unique treasures.

With the Dinesen Christmas Market at CC Shop, the traditions shaped at the old sawmill are revived in new collaborations. The Christmas Market presents a glimpse of the interesting community in which we still take part. The ambition is to support and develop the synergistic effect these communities create and to keep the curiosity about materials alive.
Together with our community of artists, architects, designers and creatives, we interpret the traditional understanding of a Christmas market with Dinesen wood as the primary material in question. The Dinesen Christmas Market offers the opportunity to experiment with a more free and adventurous aesthetic and the option to continue working with offcuts and leftover materials from our production. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in wood in creative ways in the workshop or purchase a wooden item of their own in the gift shop.
